The AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor Course is designed to train instructor candidates to teach BLS courses to healthcare professionals and other learners. This course provides the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively conduct, manage, and evaluate BLS training sessions, ensuring high-quality CPR education and life-saving skills.

Course Overview:

  1. Course Format:

    • Blended Learning: The BLS Instructor Course includes an online portion called the BLS Instructor Essentials Course, followed by an in-person, instructor-led session. This format allows candidates to complete the online training at their own pace before attending the in-person session, where they will practice teaching skills and evaluation techniques.
    • Instructor-Led Session: During the in-person session, candidates engage in practice teaching, learn about course delivery, and receive feedback on their performance. The session emphasizes hands-on practice and classroom management skills.

Prerequisites:

  • Current BLS Certification: Candidates must have an active BLS Provider certification from the AHA before attending the instructor course.

  • Alignment with a Training Center: Instructor candidates must align with an AHA Training Center, which provides ongoing support, resources, and mentorship.

Certification:

  • BLS Instructor Certification: Upon successful completion of the course, participants receive an AHA BLS Instructor certification, valid for two years. This certification allows instructors to teach BLS Provider and Heartsaver courses.
